Halloween is on Sunday! It's always more fun on a weekend! Hope you and your dog have something exciting planned. Here is a recent photo I took of Penny. (We tried putting a costume on her, but she thought it was a toy and started to nibble at it....needless to say, we went with the bandana!)

10/23--Puppy Support Group

The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA periodically holds Puppy Support Groups. Their website says, "Got some questions? Bring your puppy for an hour of open-forum problem solving and puppy play! Puppies must be current on their vaccines and under 16 weeks of age. Cost: $35 per lesson." Click the link above for more information.

10/21--Canine Massage

Does your dog need a little TLC and relaxation!?! Then check out the Canine Massage lecture through the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA on Thursday, October 21st from 6:30-8pm. Their website says, "Come learn about some wonderful holistic modalities that can help keep your pet happy & healthy. All dogs can benefit from treatments, such as Canine massage, Acupressure, Reiki and EFT (emotional freedom techniques). These are very effective for various physical ailments, emotional and behavioral issues, and preventative care. Cost is $12 per person and includes materials, light snacks and non-alcoholic refreshments. Please note all classes are for people only - please leave your great pets at home." Don't forget to stop and smell the roses....or stop and sniff the plants. I recently bought a new plant, and as you can see here, Penny was interested (a little too interested.... needless to say, we have come to learn we can't leave her alone with plants)!

Pet Loss Support Group

Pets definitely become a part of the family, so it can be difficult when a pet passes on. The San Diego Humane Society and SPCA have a Pet Loss Support Group that is held periodically. Their site explains, "The San Diego Humane Society’s Pet Loss Support Group provides an environment where thoughts and emotions can be shared with those in similar circumstances. Sessions are led by a licensed social worker and are open to those ages 10 and up....There is no fee for the sessions thanks in part to a donation from San Diego Pet Memorial Park; however donations to help with providing this valuable service are greatly appreciated. 10/13--Party with the Big Dogz

Check out the Party with the Big Dogz event at Muttropolis in Solana Beach on Wednesday, October 13th from 7-8pm. Their Facebook page says, "Calling all Big Dogs! Join us for an evening of fun while your pooches enjoy playtime and socialization with other big dogs. Refreshments and light appetizers will be served for you, treats for your pooch. Receive a 10% discount coupon for any purchases."

10/13--Fluffy Football Fans Season Kick Off Party

It's football season, so head on over to the Muttropolis in La Jolla on Wednesday, October 13th from 7-8pm for the Fluffy Football Fans Season Kick Off Party. Their Facebook page says, "Dress your pooch and (yourself?) in your favorite team colors and join us for a night of fun while your pooches enjoy off-leash playtime and socialization. San Elijo Hills Dog Park

Did you know San Elijo Hills in San Marcos has a dog park? Actually, they have two, one for small dogs and one for bigs dogs, right next to each other. We took Penny there and she had a lot of fun! (However, in this picture she is sitting on the bench watching the other dogs play...sometimes we swear she thinks she's a human!) Plus, you can walk around town there and stop into the Dexter's Deli with your dog. Such a beautiful community!

10/2--Greyhound Walking Group

Got a grey hound? Want a greyhound? Want to go for a walk with your dog? Check out the Greyhound Walking Group on the first Saturday of each month. Click on the link to be redirected to the Greyhound Connection website for more details and more information about their organization. The site explains, "Greyhounds from all organizations are invited to this casual get-together. Walks are open to people and dogs from all rescue groups. Thinking about adopting a greyhound? Come and chat with some happy greyhound owners. "

10/2 & 10/16--San Diego Spaniel Rescue Socials

Do you have a Spaniel? Well, then here's a great social event for your doggy! The San Diego Spaniel Resuce periodically holds dog socials. In October, their will be one held on Saturday 10/2 at Doyle Dog Park, and one on 10/16 at Oceanside Dog Park. Their site says, "Join fellow Cocker Spaniel owners (and their dogs!) for a leisurely get together. Our Spaniel Social happens monthly beginning at 1:00pm. Your Spaniels can run and play in the fenced-in dog park. This is a great opportunity to bond with your canine companion while providing socialization skills." 10/2--The Mutt Mile & Doggy Costume Contest

Check out the 2010 Coastwise Mile & 5K at the beautiful La Jolla Cove on Saturday October 2nd! One of the events will include the The Mutt Mile & Doggy Costume Contest. Their website goes on to say, "The Mutt Mile kicks off @ 7:30am. So bring your canine compadre and run/walk a mile. All dogs must have their shots (and be up to date). And all dogs must be on a leash (8' max length). We will also be having a costume contest @ 7:15am prior to the run (so the dogs don't have to run in their costumes). So come out and have some fun at the park, and stop by the San Diego Humane Society booth. Please note that due to City Regulations all dogs must vacate the park by 9:00am." 9/30--Art Walk

Thursdays On the Coast Art Walk is held in downtown Carlsbad at the Shops at Village Faire on the last Thursday of each month from 5:30-8:30pm, year-round. Sometimes people will display some of their art outside. If not, it's fun to window shop with your dog too! Check out the art, music, food and fun.

9/29--K9 Care Doggie Massage
