Dog Calendar--My Pet Rocks!

Think your dog is super cute? Have a great photo of you pooch? Well, your dog may have the opportunity to be in Helen Woodward Animal Center's 2011 calendar! The My Pet Rocks contest is open! Check out a Yappy Hour tomorrow (6/27-Sun) from 4 to 6 pm to benefit the FACE Foundation. The website says, "Enjoy a Glass of Wine and Help Save a Life at “Yappy Hour”! Join the FACE Foundation and Three Dog Bakery for Yappy Hour! You will enjoy wine, treats for humans and a “Quick Tip” dog training workshop conducted by Colleen Demling from Pawtopia. A portion of each sale made at Three Dog Bakery between 4:00 and 6:00 pm on June 27th will benefit the FACE Foundation." This event will be held at “Three Dog Bakery” 1555 Camino Del Mar

Summertime!

Yeah! It's Summer! In honor of it being summertime, I decided to change Penny's photo on the right hand-side of the blog to better fit the season. We recently bought a little kiddy pool, so when we can't make it to the dog beach she can still take a little dip in the pool at home. We tried taking her to a real pool, but she refuses to get in that (we think it's because she can't tell how deep that first step is). But she loves the kiddy pool, especially when we throw her tennis ball into it! I hope you all have a great summer!

6/26--Green Jazz Fest

Check out Green Jazz Fest in San Diego on Saturday June 26th from 11am to 4pm. This event's focus is that of recycling. There will be art, food, and music. Check out the link for more details including location. A portion of the net proceeds will be donated to San Diego Youth Services. (I'm assuming you can bring your dog to this event, especially since it's held in an outdoor setting.)

6/22--Dog Days of Summer Party

Did you miss the Summer Beach Party kick-off summer event at the Solana Beach Muttropolis? Don't worry, you can still check out the Dog Days of Summer Party at the La Jolla Muttropolis, on Tueday June 22nd from 7 to 8pm. Their site says, "Calling all Dogs! Join us for a night of fun while your pooches enjoy off-leash playtime and socialization. Wine and light appetizers will be served for you, treats for your pooch. Receive a 10% discount coupon for any purchases the night of the event, along with a complimentary goodie bag for your pooch!"

6/24--Yappy Hour at La Jolla Brewhouse

Join in on the Yappy Hour Summer Kick Off event at La Jolla Brewhouse on Thursday June 24th, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm in La Jolla. This event invites you to participate in pet costume contests and look-alike contests, or for raffle prizes, drinks, and food. This event is sponsored by Petsurg and ER4Pets. PETSURG.com site posted a flyer of the event that explains, "For 25 years the Pet Assistance Foundation of San Diego has helped provide funds for pet owners who can’t afford pet care such as emergency care and refers pet owners to low-cost spay/neuter veterinary hospitals. Please donate but admission is free. It’ll be the most fun you ever had with your dog in a bar! Sorry no alcohol served to dogs under 18 yrs. Canine Menu available."

6/25--Take Your Dog to Work Day!

Friday, June 25th is the National Take Your Dog to Work Day! I say...run the idea by your boss and see what they think! Wouldn't it make work so fun and distracting all at the same time?!

6/19--Fido and a Flick Fundraiser

The Fourpaws Coonhound Rescue is sponsoring this fun event, held at the Poway Community Dog Park. Their site says, "Let's meet and watch the Academy Award winning movie "UP" at Fido and a Flick on Saturday, June 19th 2010 at the Poway Community Dog Park. There is a $20/person tax deductible donation (kids under 12 are free!) that will include 5 raffle tickets for prizes. All proceeds will benefit Four Paws Coonhound and Friends Rescue. This is our first fundraiser of this type, and we are very excited. Come early to let your dog play and then we'll leash up and start the movie at 7:45pm sharp. Admission is limited to the first 100 people and their pets (1 leashed pet per person)." The site explains who to call or email in order to oder your tickets.

6/16--Doggy Social

Check out the Summer Beach Party event held at Muttropolis in Solana Beach on Wednesday June 16th from 7-8pm. The site says, "It's the official kick-off of summer. Come celebrate at Muttropolis with your pooches. Dogs will enjoy playtime and socialization while the parents mingle. Light appetizers, wine, and treats for the dogs will be served. Feel free to dress your dogs in summer attire. " Sounds like fun!

6/19--Pet Fest and Doggy Dash

Pet Fest & Doggy Dash 2010 will be held on Saturday, June 19th in Chula Vista from 8am to 1pm. The admission is FREE! The website explains, "This will be the day for pets to be celebrated. On Saturday, June 19, join our community for the 9th Annual event that is filled with friendly paws. Pet Fest promises to be the premier pet event this year, featuring a Doggy Dash 1.5-mile run/walk, pet adoptions, and pet related vendors and services. Also, don't miss the on-site blessing of the animals, spaying and neutering on the SNAP Neuter Scooter. The Doggy Dash will kick off at 9 a.m. Each $15 entry receives a free event t-shirt. All pets must be leashed in order to participate. Many dogs, cats, and other furry friends will be at this event and available for adoption. Shelter representatives will be answering questions about pet adopting and pet care." What fun!

6/12--Pooch Boot Camp

On Saturday June 12th, from 9:30 to 10:30 am (arrive at 9am), Muttropolis will be hosting a Pooch Boot Camp with Tamilee & Izzie. Tamilee is the founder of the famous Buns of Steel videos. It will be an hour of fitness and fun in the Muttropolis front yard in Solana Beach. Make sure you call the store ahead of time to sign up because space is limited.

6/12--Bark for Life

You and your dog are invited to the Bark for Life event, hosted by the American Cancer Society, on Saturday June 12th at San Dieguito Academy High School in Encinitas from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. There will be vendors, guest speakers, doggy services such as microchipping, adoptions, dog contests, and more! 100 % of proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Check out the link for registration details and more information about this event. All activities and events are open to the public. They welcome you to bring your tent, lawn chair, canopy to set up in the picnic area, and outside food and drinks are welcome. They say, "Our hope is to one day find a cure for cancer not only in humans but in every living animal."

6/11 & 6/12--Purina Incredible Dog Challenge

Going to the San Diego County Fair this year at the Del Mar Fairgrounds? Go see the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, on Friday June 11th and Saturday June 12th. The San Diego Fair website says, "Back at the Fair for the second year is the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, an Olympic-style competition for dogs that is viewed by more than one billion people worldwide via television. The Challenge features the country's top canine athletes and their handlers in events such as agility, diving dog, freestyle flying disc, 60-weave pole racing, and Jack Russell hurdle racing."

6/6--Pet Health Expo

Thank you to a friend who just told me about this fun event! The Pet Health Expo will be held on Sunday June 6th in Encinitas in the Encinitas City Hall parking lot from 9am to 1pm. The EncinitasRecReg.com site explains, "Our annual Pet Health Expo provides an opportunity for dog owners to get pet licenses and low cost shots and microchips. In addition, there will be plenty of fun activities including pictures with your pets, pet grooming, great exhibitors, a best trick contest, prizes and more. This event is held on the same day as the annual Encinitas Environment Day event, which takes place at Cottonwood Creek Park, just around the corner." Hope to see you there!

6/5--Novelty Fun Dog Show

The 6th Annual Novelty Fun Dog Show will be held on Saturday, June 5th at the Viejas Outlet Center. Registration is at 9am and the show starts at 10am. Proceeds from this event go toward the Alpin Lions club project of sponsoring service dogs for San Diego people with disabilities. There are fun entry categories like: prettiest female dog, most handsome male dog, best trick by dog, least trained dog, and waggiest tail dog just to name a few. Anyone can enter their dog! Doggy Socials

Muttropolis stores host dogs socials on a regular basis for various dog breeds/groups! It's off-leash play time for the dogs and often light appetizers are provided to the 'parents' and treats to the dogs. Check out an upcoming scheduled event!
